Langley Acreage Barn Access and Drainage
On a Langley acreage property, New Wave Earthworks improved access around a barn by managing slope, clay soil, drainage and erosion with a rock retaining wall, riprap and perimeter drainage.

The Site Challenge
The owner had recently bought the property and wanted to make the barn area more usable.
A steep elevation change, clay soil and wet weather made the area slick and muddy, limiting truck access around the barn.
What New Wave Built
- Built a rock retaining wall approximately 60 feet long with drainage below it.
- Installed riprap on a 2:1 slope to help control erosion from the neighbouring side.
- Installed perimeter drainage around the barn and directed collected water toward the ditch.
- Built a usable access path around the barn so trucks could move through the area more reliably.
- Returned for additional work including hydro trenching from an existing pole to a proposed building area and regrading the entrance driveway.
Coordination and Controls
- The work was planned around practical rural site constraints: drainage direction, slope stability, access, clay soil and future property improvements.
- Hydro trenching support was coordinated around electrical/pole work for the customer’s planned building upgrade.
Outcome
The property gained more reliable access around the barn, better drainage, improved erosion control and a practical base for future acreage upgrades.
