Maple Ridge Retaining Wall Replacement

The Site Challenge

The old wood wall was leaning, rotting and showing the usual drainage problems found in older landscape-tie retaining walls.

Access was tight through a neighbouring backyard, and the wall had to tie into existing boulders near a maple tree without creating unnecessary disturbance.

What New Wave Built

• Excavated the failing wall area and removed the old wood ties.
• Installed drainage pipe behind the new wall system.
• Built the replacement Allan block retaining wall and filled behind it with clear crush.
• Tied the wall into the existing boulder area and worked around mature site constraints.
• Restored the yard with topsoil and seed after construction.

Coordination and Controls

• Chris noted that local retaining wall height rules can change over time, so wall height, engineering and permit requirements should be checked before starting similar work.
• The project stayed focused on proper drainage, stable backfill and reducing the pressure that causes older wood retaining walls to fail.

Outcome

The customer received a cleaner, longer-lasting retaining wall system and a restored yard, replacing a failing wood wall that had poor drainage and visible deterioration.
